WordPress Spam Blockers..
I removed my image verification plugin for comments this morning around 11 am, and within a few hours, I received more than 20 spam comments. I’ve never received spam comments after installing the image verification plugin, but I removed it due to my readers’ complaints.
Now I’m looking for other ways to stop comment spams, and would like to ask you for advice on this.
What is the best way to stop comment spams (WordPress 1.5)?
EDIT: I have to keep the image verification until I find a new way to fight spam.

What I don’t get is why they make the image so silly. It doesn’t have to be difficult for humans to read it in order to be effective. Kind of annoying really…

I like it very much. I got to see the spam messages as well in the back office, which is kinda cool. :)

How’s Akismet treating you so far Bo Bang?

Spam Karma. I use it on all of my blogs and never had spam get through.
Highly recommend it.

I say keep the image verification and I agree with francisco. There really isn’t any other great way to do it. That seems to be the best available now. If it wasn’t places like ticketmaster and google wouldn’t be using it, they’d switch too.
Besides, you seem to have been getting a fair amount of comments with it on, even enough that it bothered people. Keep up the good posting and the comment verification.

Hi Bo.
Keep the image verification. Just an extra step if you are interested ethically in adding your views about the posts you provide, it not hard!
Just my 2 cents.

Maybe you can use SPAM Karma from Unknown Genius. I used them and I think they’re good.

Thanks Dave, sorry that you had to go through all that trouble. I’ve installed Akismet Spam plugin. Dana sent me an email about this plugin, and I think it’s working great.

I can’t help you on that but the only bad thing about the verification was it was hard. It’s long and hard to make out sometimes. Takes a couple of tries. But its either that or comment spam.
