Secrets secrets secrets..
I hope I don’t get penalized for the title :)
If you are a person who is always searching for the next big thing in the internet marketing, this post is for you. Through many marketing products, we’ve been manipulated to believe that their secrets will make us very rich. But how many times we purchased marketing products and said “I know this stuff already!” or “I’ve been ripped”? And how many times you actually learned new stuff?
Yes, there are secrets out there. There must be many people racking cash using those secret methods. Some of them were revealed and leaked to us. But how many of you actually used them and earned a significant amount of money?
So why the secrets don’t work as promised?
Do you want to know why? because the real secret to your success isn’t in the product. It will never be. The real secret to your success with a certain marketing product or idea is in the person who’s utilizing them. With a same opportunity given, most of people will fail and only a few will take the opportunity to the next level. Some will always complain about the marketing products they purchase and some will always see opportunities in them.
If you fall into the former category, you don’t need another marketing product. What you need is a mentor, or a friend who can push you forward. The real secret is in shaping yourself to a highly productive and self-motivating marketer. By then, you will attract success into your marketing effort.
So when you purchase a marketing product, don’t look for the secrets, but think them as a reminder from your good friend. An important reminder that you were willing to put your money on. If you think that way, you will actually learn something from the products that you thought useless.
Just a thought… :)

I think there is one other ’secret’. That’s passion. If you don’t have the passion to make IM work, whether it’s affiliate marketing or providing a service, it will never produce a long lasting income.

I have fallen into the information overload abyss many times. I found that having someone hold me accountable has helped me act on all of the things I have learned about internet marketing.

I have a slick little product ready to market via an ebook. Where can I find a partner or mentor to help me get it going? Anyone?

Thanks all for great post.
Tim, I totally agree with you. If I didn’t have passion in internet marketing, I’d never have come where I am right now. Passion is indeed the real secret .

Bo,
I agree with you that it takes a lot more than buying a product and hoping that miraculously your business will take off. It does take getting off your butt and actually putting the stuff you read about to work.
However, I think there is one other ’secret’. That’s passion. If you don’t have the passion to make IM work, whether it’s affiliate marketing or providing a service, it will never produce a long lasting income. Let’s all face it, it’s hard work. Long, sometimes boring and tedious work. A lot of people want the ‘holy grail’ of IM so they can set up automatic systems and make money while sipping margaritas on the beach. Passion is the key. Then getting off your butt and putting all that info to work.
Just my 2 cents.

I too have spent hundreds of dollars on info products. My wife calls me an info-sucker. I had a friend like Wilco that wanted me to show them how….then I found myself justifying it and trying to talk them into it. He kept saying it wasn’t worth it…then I said forget it.
Tomorrow when you’re stuck in your 5×5 cubicle with your boss breathing down your neck you decide what it’s worth.

It’s true :-)
At first I thought anyone could do what “we” can.. Just make money without a boss or something in the other corner of the office.
Now, I realized that I’m fortunate with what I am and what I can.. Entrepreneurship is a way of thinking, it’s not just working.. And when you don’t have that, it’s quitte hard to “make” it.
I’ve tried to teach a friend to be a entrepreneur, but I had to tell him EVERYTHING.. He was curious how I did it, but didn’t have the “power” to discover it by himself.. And I guess that’s (a part of) what makes us different.

Bo,
I would agree with you totally on this post. I have bought countless IM products and all have great sales letters that promise a lot, but those promises are empty unless you put action behind the methods. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t, but it is moreso sometimes the *person reading* that information works the methods, and sometimes they don’t. I have fallen into the information overload abyss many times. I found that having someone hold me accountable has helped me act on all of the things I have learned about internet marketing. I hired a business coach about a month ago, and he has helped me work out a plan to get my website rolling. He has helped me set goals, which I had read countless times before, but I have been able to actually stick to what we have set (okay, for the most part! haha)
Business coaching isn’t for everyone, but to someone that has trouble with self-discipline, it doesn’t hurt. What you say about visualizing the product as reminders is a GREAT way to look at it.
By the way, great site. Keep up the great work!

Bo..its very true…it’s not just a thought..and 1 thing that ebook marketers know is most of the internet marketers wannabe will never feel that the ebook they bought earlier is enough..once they are infront of the PC’s, they will easily get influenced and they will buy it…they keep buying while the true secret is like you said Bo, is highly productive and self-motivating marketer. A very good post Bo..
