People Are Getting Banned from EPN, but Why?

EPN (eBay Partner Network) has been actively sending out account termination letters to the publishers. The termination looks something like this…

“After reviewing your account transactions, we determined that your account has been generating non-bona fide transactions related to new registered users. This violates our Code of Conduct and breaches the agreement between us. Your account will be terminated immediately and no pending commissions will be paid to you. You are not permitted to rejoin the eBay Partner Network.

Almost all of the publishers who was banned claim that they’ve done nothing wrong, but I found a pattern from their explanation. People who got banned from EPN usually purchased traffic from unknown sources. I don’t know if this triggered a flag, but I think this is why their account was banned; Not from purchasing the traffic, but from the quality of traffic generate from these traffic brokers.

Like I said, I don’t know the definite answer, but it seems like purchasing traffic to your EPN affiliate website is a big risk. Don’t do it. If you really want to do it, you should filter purchased traffic with a landing page. I think that should be safe.

Please share your thoughts. Why these people are getting banned from EPN without an apparent reason? I hope EPN gives out a warning first before closing an account.

I just had an account terminated for “low quality traffic” - I was sending users through a landing page. I was using second tier and other traffic brokers so that may be the culprit.

    Jamie,
Did you use Adwords some some other PPC engines?
Did you send the traffic to eBay directly?

It would be cool if all of those that got banned and reversed commissions started a class action lawsuit. Ebay Partner Network is out of control. The biggest problem when receiving one of these letters is there is no recourse of action. You can email them with questions until you are blue int he face. No one responds. There is no way to defend yourself. If you are like me and spent hundreds on PPC and did not receive your commissions you are out of luck.

I bet there are more people getting banned for no reason. I would be really mad if they treat me like that since I brought them so many customers over the years.

So if not the purchased traffic, what would be causing the problem? Hmm…

I got banned and all I’m selling are cheesy little Jesus statues. I think whoever is in charge of EPN should be fired over this BS. At the very least, they should give a warning first so people have a chance to correct their actions.

I can understand Google being hardcore like this, but it makes no sense with eBay as they only pay if a sale is made. WTF is wrong with eBay these days? I’m thinking they are feeling a lot of pressure from their shareholders, the economy and competitors like Craigslist that may ultimately destroy them.

The biggest sign of trouble? When was the last time you sold something on eBay? My guess is you don’t sell nearly as much as you use to.

eBay… get it together, or…I might get angry.

I recently received a letter from eBay such as you described above. The one thing I do know is that I have never purchased traffic of any sort for any of my sites ever. So that’s not the case for me. I almost wonder if they are just canceling accounts at random and sending out a cookie cutter cover letter.
